Training

The coffee bar
Our coffee bar is situated in the conservatory area of the ground floor. It is bright and spacious and has been designed to suit the needs of disabled customers and servers. The opening times are Monday 9.00am - 3.00pm when we serve hot and cold drinks, sandwiches and toasties, jacket potatoes, soup, cakes and biscuits.
Come along, bring a friend or friends and enjoy a pleasant hour or two. Our learners enjoy having guests join us in our centre - you will be very welcome

Catering section
We have a spacious and fully equipped kitchen where learners produce lunches and snacks daily. They also make cakes and drinks for all to enjoy.
Throughout the process of producing food, the learners are also gathering evidence for their Catering Training Programme. When they have completed the training they will be awarded a nationally recognised certificate. This is a busy section where everyone is fully involved in preparing and cooking the dish of the day. We have many reports of our learners trying out some of the recipes at home.

IT
This is very popular with our learners. We have a spacious training room with 9 work stations specially designed and adapted to suit the needs of our learners. Literacy and Numeracy skills are integrated within the IT Training Programme.
Work produced by our learners can be displayed on an interactive whiteboard in the training room. This is often a new concept for the learners and they are excited to be able to see it in operation. We continue to purchase more advanced aids to ensure our learners can develop lifelong computer skills.

Garden
We have a large garden area that has been developed in two parts. The sensory garden is a courtyard area that has been planned with raised flower beds and water features that gives beautiful colour all year round.
There are many seats around this part of the garden where our learners can sit and enjoy the surroundings and have a chat with some of their colleagues.

The second part is a working garden with a large poly-tunnel and greenhouse. Vegetables and herbs for use in our kitchen and plants for sale in the community are raised from seed and our learners are involved in the process of sewing seeds, re-potting the seedlings, transferring the little plants to the garden and finally in harvesting the crop.
This is a great environment and our learners do enjoy working in the polytunnel on cold or wet days and working outside when the weather is fine.

Stimulating Activities Learning (SAL)
This programme has been developed by ENABLE (SHEFFIELD) to meet the specific needs of our learners who cannot, for many reasons, participate through the training routes we have to offer. For this very special group we have a package of life skills and craft work.
We have 2 members of staff in this section and have many reports of how the learner’s skills are developing. They are encouraged to try new experiences, to produce cards and other novelties, work in the garden and poly-tunnel and arrange outings and other events for all at ENABLE (SHEFFIELD).
Our learners also plan tabletop sales and are fully involved in selling the goods on the day.

Induction for new learners
When a new learner joins ENABLE (SHEFFIELD), they are shown round the centre and introduced to everyone. Many already know a few of our learners and this often makes them feel more comfortable. We then take them through an induction process to let them know all about us and what they will be doing when they are here. We also tell them about the social activities we offer. We do not rush this process and when it has been completed the learner is given a copy of the induction so they can take it home.
